Traditional Braces

It is a reliable solution for a beautiful smile treating extreme overcrowding, spacing, crooked teeth, and malocclusions for both children and adults. Braces are attached on the teeth, working continuously and consistently, so you are not responsible to keep the process going. In certain orthodontic cases, traditional braces are the most effective treatment option, including but not limited to surgically assisted orthodontics that combine bite correction and complex jaw alignment.
Average Treatment Time:

Typically 18 to 24 months.

Factors Affecting Duration:

Severity of misalignment, malocclusion, age and consistency of periodic appointments.

Adjustments:

Regular visits every 4-6 weeks for adjustments.

Retention Phase:

After braces, retainers are needed to maintain results.

Different types of braces:

  • Metal brackets -smaller and thinner profile, less breakage.
  • Ceramic Clear brackets -almost invisible, great esthetic option.

Q. How long is braces treatment?

A. Treatment time can vary from 6 to 24+ months depending on many different factors. Following an initial consultation with me, a more precise treatment duration can be determined.

Q. What are the parts of braces?

A. Brackets and wires. Brackets are metal pieces bonded on your teeth and wire is engaged to each bracket with elastics (different colors) connecting them together. Wire is the driving force to make teeth straight.

Q. Can braces be removed early?

A. Braces can be removed early, but only if your teeth have properly aligned and your orthodontist approves it. Taking them off too soon can cause teeth to shift back, so it’s best to follow the treatment plan closely.

Q. Are traditional braces faster than aligners treatment?

A. Treatment time varies with many different factors but different types of braces is typically not one of them. However, braces can be faster than aligners if aligners compliance is not good.

Q. What can I not eat with braces?

A. Chewing gums, sticky snacks, hard foods in general that may compromise the braces bonding and tooth movement.

Q. Do braces hurt?

A. Braces do not hurt but can be uncomfortable in the beginning of the treatment process. After a few days, your mouth gets adjusted and feel comfortable.

Q. Do I need to wear rubber bands?

A. It depends on individual’s occlusion but if you have a large Overjet or Overbite it is more likely rubber bands are needed.

Q. What happens when braces break?

A. It is best not to break any parts of braces, brackets and wires, because it can prolong treatment time. When they break accidentally, they are easily repairable and should be done soon.

Q. Can adult get braces?

A. Yes, as long as teeth and bone health is in good condition.

Q. Do I need to wear retainers after braces removal?

A. Yes, to maintain the treatment results and smile, retainers are necessary.
